On a very cold day here at the VFW in Walpole, 188 players made their drive up for their chance at the $10,000 prize pool.
Mike Sullivan, from Warwick Rhode Island, bested 187 players to take home the First Place prize of $2500. Starting the Final Table, Sullivan started 7th in chips. “My plan was to stay out of way and hope to move up the pay scale that way” says Mike.
Mike has only been playing with the Eastern Poker Tour for about 18 months. This Providence Police officer plays twice a week when his schedule allows time. His favorite venue is the VFW on Friday nights.
When asked about his nickname, Mike said “They call me “Flash” because I’m always out of a tournament “in a flash”. as he chuckled. Sullivan enjoys watching “The Big Game” to try to learn from the pros on moves.
Sullivan’s first victim was Ronnie Smith (3rd Place). With the blinds at 60,000/120,000 Smith moves all-in with A♥ 5♥. Sullivan called with 10♠ 10♥. The flop went 10♦ 10♣ 9♣ to give Sullivan quads. Everyone gasped and jaws dropped.
Two hands later, Sullivan knocked out Radanes Lopez (2nd Place) to finish the tournament. Mike plans to pay off bills with the money he just won!
One side notes: Ronnie Smith now has a DOUBLE STACK for the Season 30K Final
Glenn, Gretel, Craig and the rest of the tournament staff want to thank everyone for coming out today and making this the BEST BAR POKER league!
